The Star Ledger recently came out with their top 5 guards in New Jersey high school history and St. Pat’s had two on the list.
Kyrie Irving, St. Patrick, 2010 graduate. Transferred to St. Patrick as a junior after scoring over 1,000 points in two seasons at Montclair Kimberley. Tremendous feel for the game, an explosive leaper and seemed to make improvements in his skill set by the day. His pull-up jumper was not a scoring option, but a lethal weapon. Led Celtics to T of C title as junior, but his team was ruled ineligible for the state tournament last year.
Shaheen Holloway, St. Patrick, 1996 graduate. Three-time Star-Ledger All-State pick who played at top speed on every single possession. His crossover dribble was No. 1 public enemy to ankles all over the Metropolitan area and Holloway was brilliant in the clutch. Finished with 2,151 career points. Guys who covered him 15 years ago are still trying to catch their breath.
